She’s a ten. He’s a five. The infamous rating game. We rate ourselves on our physical looks, our financial gain, and by material wealth. However, I choose to be rated R, because I choose to reign in life.
Rated R: R For Reigning in Life
What does it mean to reign? No, it does not mean to have a gold shiny crown, and have the right to have a red carpet laid out in front of you to walk upon. It means to have control, rule, or to have influence of any kind. However, that’s English textbook definition, the type of “reigning” I’m talking about goes deeper than that, i.e., “reigning in life”.
Who has control of your life? Call it an epiphany, but I realized that when I try to have more control on what goes on in my life the more that goes wrong. That is why I give complete control over the situations, and outcomes of my life to God. (Proverbs 16:9 NIV) Your condition is not your position.
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” – (Proverbs 19:21 NIV)
I don’t rule my life. My life is not my own. God has given me life through Jesus Christ. Therefore, He rules my life. Now God is no tyrant, far from it. God is graceful and merciful, but always sovereign. He is omnipotent and omniscient. He is the ruler of my life — “Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. 17 Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you. 18 Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living.” – (Romans 6:16-18 NIV)
Music can influence, artists can influence. a lot of things can influence us; whether in a right or wrong way. While others are influenced by others things, my influence is God. I choose to be influenced by the character of Jesus Christ that represents God’s image. I choose to live by the NINE — (Galatians 5:22-23 NIV). Let God influence your life.
“Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. 2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.” – (Ephesians 5:1-2 NLT)
“To be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” – (Ephesians 4:23-24 NIV)
Reigning in Life:
Reigning in life is allowing God to have control, rule, and influence over the life you have gained through Jesus Christ by salvation. Reigning in life is living the kingdom of God — “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” – (Romans 14:17 NIV)
