Title is not reality. You might call yourself a plumber, but if you don’t go out, and do plumber like work, you’re not a plumber. There are a lot of people who call themselves Christian, and yet their life says nothing about being a follower of Christ. They’re just wearing a title – a religious title.
We focus so much on religious titles, e.g., Baptist, Pentecostal, Methodist, etc. However, Jesus Christ was not Baptist nor Methodist. He was God’s son here on earth doing the will of his Father. We have strayed so much away from the soundness of Christs’ teaching, and have settled for religious dogma. There are people out there who call themselves Christian, but they hate their neighbor.
I’m Christian, but he or she steals.
I’m Christian, but he or she lies.
I’m Christian, but he or she hates.
We use the title Christian so loosely. Being a Christian by religion does not mean you are following Christ. We create so many false theological ways of living a religion than living a Christlike life; living a life of love:
““Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” – Matthew 22:36-40 NIV
I believe Jesus Christ would reject all the religious theologies we have today, and Christianity is no exception. Would he attend your congregation? All religion is an abomination to God’s plan:
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism;one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” – Ephesians 4:2-6 NIV
Religion has done nothing good for the world. Religion has failed, and will continue to fail. We need to uproot this religious mentality within ourselves, and allow the mind of Christ to settle within. We need to lose the religious titles we cling to, and live out what we are called to truly follow – followers of Christ.
