The Gospel of us

“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation,” Jesus Christ said to the eleven disciples. (Mark 16:14-15 NIV) It was the calling of the disciples to spread the gospel of Christ, so it is with us as well as children of our Heavenly Father – God. But are we spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ or are we spreading our gospel?

This post is something to reflect about for those who walk in Christ…

We are designed to do one thing, and that is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God calls us out in different ways of doing it, but to spread the gospel nonetheless. However, in today’s society, especially within the high school transitioning to college age some of us get caught up with ourselves in certain areas of natural life, e.g.,  job, money, college, and social life. These things become instant priorities in our life.

We put a lot of effort in applying to as many jobs as we can in hope of getting hired.

We put our focus in having enough money to go out with friends.

We put a lot of effort in setting up our college class schedule, and deciding what we want as a degree.

That’s a lot “we.” but where is Jesus Christ in all that?

Think about it…

Do we put as much effect into spreading the gospel as we do when we apply for a job?

Do we put most of our focus in studying God’s word as much as we put most of our focus when studying for finals?

Do we put an effort in setting up opportunities to introduce the gospel, and figuring out what God’s calling is for you, which might mean what you are pursuing yourself in college is not what God wants? Is your major going to spread the gospel?

Spreading the gospel… are you doing that in your daily life? Are you representing Jesus Christ in your job, social circles, etc.?

These are the questions we should ask ourselves, because are we on this earth to walk in the steps of Christ, and to spread the good news or we just here to make our own gospel?

It’s time that we reconnect with our God-given mission. We need to reevaluate our perspective in life, and make it according to God’s will. We do not live for ourselves, but for God, and Him alone. There is only one gospel, and that is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Not the gospel of us.

Biblical text to reflect on:

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” (Romans 1:16 NIV)

The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, for,

“Who has known the mind of the Lord
    so as to instruct him?”

But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:14-17 NIV)
